Howbery Business Park is inviting entries for its 2026 ‘Art in the Park’ competition on the theme of ‘Gardens for a changing climate’. Prizes are on offer for the best 2D artwork in different age categories.

Participants in the competition are free to interpret ‘Gardens for a changing climate’ as they wish, but are encouraged to visit our grounds for inspiration. Of particular relevance to this year’s theme is the Flood Resilient Garden (which debuted at the 2024 Chelsea Flower Show), which showcases how planting and landscaping can create an attractive outside space that can respond and adapt to the challenges of heavy rain and surface water flooding. Climate change is expected to cause more intense and more frequent rainfall in coming years, as well as more severe dry spells. Resilient gardens, such as the one at Howbery, can help reduce the risk of flooding, and make it easier for gardens to bounce back if flooded.

First prize in the over-18s category is £500 while two highly commended entries will receive a £250 prize each. Winners in each of the two junior categories (ages12-18, and ages 4-11) will receive a £50 prize each for themselves and £250 for their nominated school or youth group to spend on art supplies.

The deadline for the over-18s category is 20 August 2026. Their artwork can be up to A3 in size and must initially be submitted online. If shortlisted, artists will be invited to bring in their physical artwork. For the two junior categories, ages 4-11 and 12-18, the deadline is 18 September 2026. These entrants must create their artwork on a postcard measuring 148 x 105mm, which they can send or hand in at Howbery’s onsite café.

An exhibition of all artworks will be held at Howbery Park’s Manor House on 7-9 October with winners announced on 6 October 2026.
