Black Wantage Walking Tour. ‘Dare to step into the shadows of Wantage’s past’. Bringing local History to life.
Dare to step into the shadows of Wantage’s past. Walk the very streets where desperation, vice and violence once thrived.
Black Wantage is not the history you learned at school. It is the history they whispered about…
This haunting tour uncovers a town scarred by poverty, lawlessness and drunken excess – a time when survival was uncertain and mercy was scarce. Stand on the site of the notorious original Wantage workhouse, where the so-called “undeserving poor” were cast aside and left to endure lives of hardship and humiliation.
