We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:
South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are committed to making this website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons:
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
WCAG 2.4.7 – Focus Visible
Whilst the focus indicator is available across the majority of the site, it is not currently visible on the inspirational navigation feature towards the bottom of each page which can make it difficult for keyboard users to know where they are on the page. We plan to ensure all content is Focus Visible by 31 March 2026.
WCAG 2.1.1 – Keyboard Navigation ( partial)
Whilst keyboard navigation functions throughout the site, the lower inspirational navigation feature across the site are not as clear to navigate as we would like due to the lack of focus visibility that should run alongside it. All content is, however, fully accessible via touch or mouse. We plan to ensure all content is navigable by Keyboard by 31 March 2026.
WCAG 1.3.1 – Info and Relationships | WCAG 4.1.2 – Name, Role, Value | WCAG 2.4.4 – Link Purpose (In Context)
The event submission form includes form fields without labels, and some child elements in the forms may not be announced by screen readers. These limitations are due to the structure of the third-party form plug-in. We have made efforts to ensure clarity through other design features and continue to review improvements. We plan to fix by 31 March 26
WCAG 1.1.1 – Non-text Content
Images uploaded within our events listing are uploaded by third-party users and therefore do not always have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot always access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).
Images uploaded by our team are provided with appropriate alternative text. However, images added directly by external business users may lack alt text. While we encourage users to provide this, it is not always possible to enforce. Our team intermittently reviews and monitors this content. We plan to find an enhanced functionality to ensure text alternatives are compulsory for all images by 31 March 2026.
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
We are actively working to address the above non-compliances, focusing on improving keyboard navigation, focus indicators, and form labelling. We are also reviewing our third-party plug-ins to identify more accessible alternatives where feasible. Our accessibility roadmap and dates identified in the Non-accessible Content section outlines how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website.
This website was tested for accessibility using Silktide, an automated accessibility evaluation platform. The testing was carried out by Tourism South East, using Silktide’s automated tools to check compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
The most frequently visited pages were included in the review to ensure that key content and functionality meet accessibility requirements.
We continue to monitor accessibility using Silktide and make improvements as issues are identified.
